Why should I vaccinate?
There is a full blown measles outbreak going on in Wales, which is part of Great Britain. Measles is highly contagious infection. It can be deadly. At least one person has died from the outbreak. For more information on this story, click here or here
Measles is a completely preventable disease. The routine childhood vaccination schedule in Canada includes the MMR vaccine - MMR stands for Measles, Mumps and Rubella.
When enough children are not vaccinated against a disease, outbreaks will happen. Many children are not vaccinated with MMR in the early 2000s because of concerns about autism. This is simply not true. There is no link between MMR and any disease. The study that this concern was based on has been completely refuted. The author lost his medical license because of falsifying data. (See the whole story here). Sadly, those children have not been vaccinated. This is the group that is getting measles in Wales - children and teenagers.
Talk to your family doctor or nurse practitioner about getting your children vaccinated. The next outbreak could very well be in Bancroft.
Vaccines are safe. The diseases they prevent are not.
